Microwave ovens cook by heating the water molecules in food. Glass is impermeable so it doesn't contain any water and won't itself get hot (though water on the glass will heat up).

But if you heat the tray in a conventional oven the direct heat will be too much for the glass and it will easily shatter. This is especially true at the points where the metal oven rack touched the glass.

Look for glass trays that say Oven, Microwave and Dishwasher Proof. If a glass tray is only microwave and dishwasher proof it can handle the very hot water, but can't handle direct heat.
